upon almost all branches of general knowledge. Particulars
of those can bo had OH application to the Secretary of the
University: and, as already stated, arrangements are readily
made for the admission of quests to any single course
of study desired. The Professors and Lecturers are always
kindly interested in helping- foreigners on.

Then the ''Academical Association" arranges every winter
for a course of Popular Scientific Lectures, open to all.
And in like manner the nmi/rroiis local societies get np
occasional lectures on interesting subjects of arts, science,
social economy, trade history and the like. Almost every
day in winter some lecture is announced in the Preiburger
Tagblatt. Among the societies thus active, we may name

Austrian Alpine Club (Preiburg Section): Historical Society:
Medical Association: Branch of the German Colonial-Association

The Libraries of the University and the Town are open
to any Visitor, on the recommendation of an inhabitant,
and are well furnished with books.

Scientific meetings of all kinds are often held and are
easy of access.

A Town Museum of Natural History and Ethnology is

in course of preparation.

An English Literary Society has lately been formed
under the presidency of Rev. (!. R. Green, English Lector
at the Univer&ity. Secretary, M. 11. Ferrars Esq., Wall-
strasse. Monthly meetings are held, at which papers are
read, and social reunions take place. Subscription, i$ s.
