The Theatre.
The Town Theatre is considered to be one of the best
in Germany, next after the Court Theatres. There arc
from four to five performances every week, between Sep-
tember ami May, both operatic and dramatic. Tin' operas
of Wagner are included in the programme, as well as tin.'
classical plays of Shakespeare, Schiller and Leasing. It is
allowed that for the size of the town, the Theatre is excellent
: and many foreigners visit the performances with
pleasure to themselves and profit to their German ami
musical studies.
Season Subscriptions arc so arranged as to make the
average price of a ticket for any one performance:
Balcony, first throe rows: 2s. lid.
„ the back rows; 2s. 3d.
Sperrsitz. Parquet, or Stalls: I s. (id.
Fremdenloge, a kind of Amphitheatre' Stalls: 1 s. 3d.
These Season Subscriptions covei J30 performances, including
those given on Sundays.
Subscriptions are made possible for half the number ef
performances in such a way, that cadi play is produced
in one of the half-series, A. or Ii. Subscribers therefore
to half the performances do not miss any piece.
So also may subscribers take places for a reduced series
of sixteen or eight nights: the average prices being rather
higher: viz: 3s., 2s. lOd. 1 s. ]07,d. 1 S. 7'/., d. respectively.
Sometimes a special Opera or I 'lay is given when subscription
tickets are not available: on such occasions subscribers
are offered seats at reduced prices.
Tickets are taken at the office of the Theatre, 42 Salz-
strasse, ground floor.
