ist vielfach mißverstanden worden. Es handelt sich nicht um eine astrologische
Eheuntersuchung, sondern um eine Arbeit über das Verhalten von Zahlen,
denen eine gewisse Autonomie zukommt. In Situationen, die einen Archetypus
beleben - und dazu gehört die Astrologie - passen sich die Zahlen unter der Wirkung
eines arrangierenden Faktors der emotionalen Erwartung an. Solche synchronistischen
Vorgänge, das «sinnvoll Zufallende», haben einen Bereich von
Akausalität, Freiheit und Sinnhaftigkeit in der Natur zum Hintergrund, der sich
komplementär zu Gebundenheit, Mechanik und Sinnlosigkeit verhält.

SUMMARY

The author Starts from chapter II (an astrological experiment) of the original
German edition of his article « Synchronicity: an acausal connecting principle»
in which he describes a Statistical investigation into the relation of factors of the
horoscopes of married people according to the notions of traditional astrology.
The total results exceeded chance and are interpreted by the author as synchronicity
, that is as a significant arrangement induced by the expectations of
the experimenter based on archetypal conditions. His intention has often been
misunderstood. It was not a question of an astrological research of marriage but
of a work on the behaviour of figures to which a certain autonomy is due. In
situations stimulating an archetype - and astrology belongs to them-figures
under the influence of an arranging factor may correspond to the emotional ex-
pectation. Synchronisticalevents of this kindhave a ränge of acausality, freedom
and meaningness in nature as their background which is complementary to
coercion, mechanics, and senselessness.

RESUME

L'auteur part du chapitre II (une experience astrologique) de son ouvrage «La
synchronicite comme principe d'une connexion acausale», dans lequel il de-
crit une investigation statistique sur les relations de certains facteurs des horoscopes
de gens maries, selon les dieses de Pastrologie traditionelle. Les re-
sultats excedant dans leur totalite la chance sont interpretes comme synchronisti-
ques, c'est-ä-dire comme un arrangement significatif dependant de l'expectation
de Pexperimentateur basee sur des archetypes. Son intention a souvent ete mal
compris. II ne s'agit pas d'une recherche astrologique sur le mariage mais d'un
essai sur le comportement de chiffres auxquels on peut attribuer une certaine
autonomie.Dans des situations animant un archetype-et Pastrologie y appartient
- les chiffres peuvent correspondre ä une expectation emotionelle sous Pinfluence
d'un facteur d'arrangement. De tels evenements synchronistiques se deploient
devant Parriere-plan d'un domaine de la nature caracterise par acausalite, liberte
et signification et qui est complementaire ä coercition, mecanisme et non-sens.
