Analyse des Wesens der parapsychischen Phänomene hervorgehoben. Abschließend
werden die Beziehungen der Parapsychologie zu anderen Disziplinen
der Wissenschaft und die Grundzüge der gängigen Hypothesen behandelt.

SUMMARY

The author contributes a lecture given in the University of Freiburg in a series of
Conferences on the general topic «Concept and function of the frontier in the
Universitas». He surveys parapsychology as the «Frontier Science of the
Mind». The historical development is outlined from qualitative material (re-
garded as evidence byBergson) to quantitative-statistical research,theprocedure
and results of which are described. The author points out the bearing of the
theory of probabilities and the importance of spontaneous phenomena and
qualitative mediumistic material as a necessary background for the Interpretation
of Statistical results, and as an indispensable approach to analyzing the na-
ture of paranormal phenomena. Finally the relations of parapsychology to
other branches of science and the elements of current hypotheses are dealt with.

RESUME

Dans cet article l'auteur contribue une Conference qu'il a donnee ä l'Universite
de Fribourg au cours d'une serie de Conferences traitant le sujet general: «Concept
et fonction de la limite dans l'Universalite». II donne une vue d'ensemble
sur la parapsychologie comme « science limite de l'äme». Le developement histo-
rique est esquisse, conduisant du materiel qualitatif, regarde comme probant
par Bergson, aux recherches quantitatives et statistiques dont le procede et
les resultats sont demontres. La portee du calcul de probabilite est traitee, ainsi
que l'importance des phenomenes spontanes et du materiel qualitatif medium-
istique comme arriere-plan necessaire pour l'interpretation des resultats statistiques
et comme acces indispensable pour analyser la nature des phenomenes
parapsychiques. Finalement les relations de la parapsychologie avec d'autres
disciplines de la science et les elements des hypotheses courantes sont demontres.
