«Pre Cognition» in a Dream-Series. Documentation and Structural Analysis of Mea-
ningful Coincidences in the «Case of Gotenhafen». Second Part.
In the first part of this contribution, meaningful coincidences of 12 dreams of an
actress with later real situations have been documented. The dreams - numbe-
ring about 1000 and filed in the Freiburg Institute for Border Areas of Psycholo-
gy - seemed to have striking relations to two later films and to events which
occurred during their taking. In one of them «Night Fell Upon Gotenhafen»
the dreamer had played a part. The other film was turned at the same time.

The example of the «Comedian-dream» in the first part showed a linking of
motifs of the actual Situation of the time of the dream and of the future. This
linking is analyzed in further examples. The leitmotifs of several dreams are
investigated in view of their occurrence and of their meaning in the total
series of ca. 1000 dreams. The ship-motif in the dreams of the Old Steamer
and the Ship's cook seems to be a symbol of the dreamer's desire for freedom.
This Interpretation is documented by a dreamer's diary, by her comments and
by her associations. It suggests a specific dynamic function of this motif in the
dreamer's «biography of the unconscious.» In regard to the actual Situation
of the time of the dream, the ship-dreams seem to indicate a recurrent basic
psychological Situation combined with problems of the maturing process.

This is an archetypical condition of the Psyche in the sense of Jung. In
regard to the future Situation the Ship's cook dream seems to suggest that
the dream scene which first reflects an inner psychological condition, in the
future undergoes a new reflection on the level of reality and thus becomes life
experience. The authors attempt a similar structural analysis with the motifs
«baby», «swimming», and the «Climatic Paradox.» They try to show analo-
gies between the «dynamic configuration» of the dreams in question and
psychodiagnostic tests.

They finally discuss the problem whether the concidences of dreams and
future real situations are more suggestive for the pattern of «Psi-ability» or
whether some of them at least should not better fit into the pattern of syn-
chronicity which sees the extraordinary in the event itself and not only in the
ability for extra-sensory perception. The two concepts might not exclude one
another but could be considered as supplementäry views.
